5-1 Volleyball — Rotation 5
In a 5-1, rotation 5 puts the setter in the front row, so you attack with two front-row hitters plus back-row options. The outside hitter serves. The diagrams below show the legal serve-receive formation, the base positions, and the switch after the serve.

Coaching notes for this rotation
- At serve contact every player must be positioned legally: within each row the left-to-right order holds, and each front-row player stays closer to the net than the back-row player behind them. The serve-receive diagram shows a formation that keeps all of that legal.
- Because the setter is already at the net, they can set quickly, but keep an eye on your two front-row hitters to spread the attack.
- The two outside hitters and the middle blocker pass in this rotation; the front-row middle releases to hit and does not pass.
